The Hampshire Avon Record Salmon

A picture of Gran Howard's recording breaking fish caught from the Royalty Fishery in 1951 and weighing 49lbs. As well as a Avon record, this must also represent one or the largest Chalk Stream Salmon to have been caught (Chalk Stream Salmon are a proven sub species of Atlantic Salmon)

Caught on a spinning sprat, which was a traditional way to catch Salmon on the Avon and accounted for many of the large fish caught from the Royalty Fishery.

This record has stood for 71 years and it is difficult to imagine that it can be broken, but as an optimists will hope..
